What Are the Different Types of Furnace Repair Parts?
If you are like most homeowner’s that know next to nothing about furnaces, then you have come to the right site. Our blog today will be about what the different kinds of furnace repair parts are, and when they are needed.
While there are numerous furnaces available today, most of them work in the same way. The 4 types of furnaces are oil, electric, gas, and solid fuel. While the types of fuel differ, furnace parts are similar. The basic design of a furnace starts with a thermostat. This is what gauges the temperature, that in turn determines when the burner needs to be ignited.
An ignitor will light the burner, which in layman’s terms, burns fuel to create heat. Heat exchangers are dual-purpose parts. They warm the air that will then be distributed and keep fumes created by burned fuel separate from the heated air.
Other parts will include a blower, this draws air in to be warmed, in addition to distributing the warm air back into a space. The air will be moved through a series of ductwork in each direction, and cool air will be drawn back to the furnace via a series of return ducts.
A fan limit switch is what keeps the blower from distributing air until it has been properly heated to the desired temperature. It will also turn off the burner if the temperature gets too high. This stops a furnace from working more than it needs to, in addition to acting as a safety feature.
Another of the basic but important part is the pilot light. It is usually one of the first things that are checked when trouble is reported. Relighting a pilot light can often prevent an unnecessary service call. However, if you are unsure how to light it, then ask the technician to show you how to do it safely on their next visit.
